Louis Pasteur The Scientific Field Of Biology - 2860 Words

Louis Pasteur: The French 19th century biologist, Louis Pasteur, is responsible for many scientific advancements, particularly in the field of biology. He has become one of the most well-known figures in the science of biology for having a massive effect on the direction of scientific thinking. He was a key figure in contributing to the germ theory of disease. His historical experiments proved his theories, and changed the way the world views the fundamental principles of microbiology. One experiment that he sought to complete was one to find out what the cause was for fermentation. He wanted to see what would happen if he passed oxygen through a fermenting liquid. The oxygen stopped the fermentation process, and the broth continued†¦show more content†¦The straight tube would allow for air-borne bacteria to fall straight into the broth while the swan neck would trap the bacteria in the trough. He did this to try and disprove the widely accepted theory of spontaneous generation. At the time, this changed the whole concept of microbiological reproduction and brought in a new way of thinking. While both of these experiments carried out by Louis Pasteur had a large effect on the way people perceived the world of science, they both did it in slightly different ways. For Pasteur’s experiment that disproved the spontaneous generation theory, it completely changed the way scientists thought about life for centuries before. Not only that, but it simply changed the way people viewed the world. He was able to show that bacteria were not able to form on its own without a source, and that it needed a catalyst (in this case, microorganisms from the air). This is an example of a scientific advancement, improving our knowledge and understanding in the field of biology. Not only did it disprove spontaneous generation on a microbiological scale, but made everybody think about the entire theory pertaining to other animals such as maggots and rats. This advancement lead to people rethinking the entire concept of animal reproduction, and was a stepping stone for greater scientific d iscoveries using the newfound understanding. It’s just one example of how improving scientific understanding leads to new perceptions

The Theory Of Nature And Religious Belief Essay - 1041 Words

Benjamin Boateng Science is primarily based on study of nature and Religious belief are typically based on faith. Reaching a consensus is generally impossible. Natural science has had some vast majority of influence on religion. Scientific and evidence based rational notion has seen to be increasingly replacing religion. In the 21st century, while science has gained in influence and knowledge, I personally think religion has not been supersede. The idea that science and religion are at war with one another is actually fairly recent. It really only arose in the last third of the nineteenth century, after the publication of Darwin s book on evolution. In the wake of the furor over Darwin s idea that humans were descended from apes, some people on both sides tried to paint the other side as the enemy. Charles Darwin was the one that put forward the theory that all life evolves by processes of natural selection. According to Darwin, life began with very simple creatures, which gradually evolved over mill ions of years into more complex forms. Eventually this process gave rise to human beings. Likewise in the twentieth century, physicists and cosmologists have worked out a scientific account of how the universe came into being. Again, this account says that the universe came into being in a very simple state that gradually evolved over millions of years into ever more complex forms. Again, the process did not happen in a week, but over extremely long periods of time. The other thing is how the media uses this information and the perceptual experience it can give to taxpaying citizens. Electronic Privacy Laws The Electronic Communications Privacy Act and the Stored Wire Electronic Communications Act are normally referred together as the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986 ( ECPA ) . The ECPA updated the Federal Wiretap Act of 1968. The older Wiretap Act had been written to turn to interception of conversations utilizing â€Å"hard† telephone lines. The oncoming of computing machine and other digital and electronic communications prompted the demand to do the update. The USA PATRIOT Act and subsequent federal passages have clarified and updated the ECPA in visible radiation of the on-going development of modern communications engineerings and methods. including easing limitations on jurisprudence enforcement entree to stored communications in some instances ( World Wide Web. it. ojp. gov ) . In my sentiment I find the privateness Torahs to be nice. but all it takes is one person to chop a system and disburse information to whoever wants it. This has happen to several web s ites like Zappos. com and Google. where information on clients was stolen from their database. In the authorities sector it is truly unsafe for information to leak out since most authorities bureaus are connected and if you have a smart hacker he or she may acquire through to information that may be hurtful to the United States. Mitosis and Protein Synthesis Essay Example

Mitosis and Protein Synthesis Essay The cell is absolutely a very sophisticated part of an organism. One instance that exemplifies this argument is that cells can produce protein. It isn‘t as simple as just making protein, and it involves decoding and transcribing DNA codes. Another illustration of this statement is that cells have the rare ability to duplicate themselves. Many types of cells, including human cells, use a process called mitosis, to generate clones. In this abridging essay, I will condense the complicated data we learned about these specific subjects. The first topic I will discuss is the replication procedure called mitosis. Mitosis is a cell division method that requires a certain sequence to be completed successfully. In mitosis, two new cells are created which have the same numbers and kinds of chromosomes as the original , or parent cell. The first step is called interphase. Interphase is the time period when the cell prepares for cell division, which means the cell makes copies of the chromosomes, and acquire nutrients. This is also considered the time when a cell carries out typical cell functions, such as protein synthesis and growth. The step subsequent to interphase is called prophase. In prophase, the chromotids(pairs of chromosomes) are fully viewable if observed through a microscope. The nucleus and nuclear membrane begin disintegrating and disappearing, while the centrioles shift to opposite sides of the cell. After prophase, the cell begins to divide. The steps following prophase are when the cell initiates the duplication process. Metaphase is the phase directly after prophase, in which the chromotids line up at the center of the cell and attach to the spindle fibers. After this step, anaphase commences. The anaphase is when the chromosomes separate from each other because of the spindle fibers pulling back. Telophase is the final step in mitosis, in which a new nucleus is formed and the cytoplasm starts separating. At the end of mitosis, the two new cells divide and pop, like jell-o. Another sophisticated process that happens in cells is protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is just a different way of saying how protein is produced. DNA is also called deoxyribonucleic acid, and contains encrypted information about how to produce proteins. The nitrogen bases in DNA are like puzzle pieces since they only fit to certain other bases(A-T,G-C). Proteins are long chains of amino acids. The types of proteins being made are what make your brown hair brown, or your blue eyes blue. RNA, is also called ribonucleic acid. There are 3 different types of RNA made from the DNA in a cell. mRNA is what transfers the DNA code from the nucleus to the ribosome. rRNA is what the ribosome is made of. tRNA is what brings amino acids from the cytoplasm to the ribosome. mRNA is different from DNA since Thymine is replaced by Uralic(A-U) in the mRNA code. At the ribosome, tRNA momentarily matches with the mRNA code. As the tRNA molecules decode the mRNA code, the amino acids attached to them connect and form the beginning of a protein. Those tRNA molecules then leave to retrieve more amino acids from the cytoplasm while the ribosome moves along so that new tRNA molecules can repeat the process and add to the protein molecule, which, again, is a long chain of amino acids. In short, that is the long coded protein forming process. Cell Division and Protein Synthesis are complex and elaborate parts of our biological structure. These functions are critical to the distinctive health of the human body. This was a fun topic to learn, and I hope to return to this subject of learning at any time. Thank you for taking time to read my longer than expected essay, and good-bye.
